Billing

The Billing tab shows what you have used this month, what it costs, and what you owe. Only the Owner and Admin roles can open it.

Opening the Billing tab

Click Settings in the left sidebar, then click the Billing tab at the top of the Settings page.

Owner and Admin only

Only members with the Owner or Admin role see the Billing tab. Other roles do not. They still see the usage banners at the top of the dashboard, but with no button. The banner asks them to get an Owner or Admin to act on it.

What is free

Every organization gets 10,000 tested visitors a month, forever, free. There is no separate free plan and no paid plan: it is the same product for everyone, and every feature is included from the start. Nothing is locked behind a plan name.

Two things need billing details on file, because they cost us real money each time they are used:

Everything else, including every experiment type, every stats engine, commerce, and both halves of integrations, is on for every account, with or without billing details.

What counts as a tested visitor

A tested visitor is one person your website showed an experiment or a feature flag decision to. Each one counts once per calendar month, no matter how many times they come back. Experiment exposures and flag exposures share the same count: there is only one meter to watch.

Only real visitor traffic counts. Bot, preview, and internal traffic is left out, so testing your own site never uses up your allowance.

The month runs on UTC, not your local time zone. It starts at midnight UTC on the 1st and ends at midnight UTC on the 1st of the next month.

Your usage this month

The usage meter shows how many tested visitors your organization has used so far this month, against the free 10,000.

Early in a month, the meter can read Not calculated yet instead of a number. It means we have not counted the month yet, not that it is zero. Your visitors are still recorded the whole time. We count them every hour, and we also keep a quick count as they arrive. The meter shows whichever count is higher.

At 8,000 visitors

Once your organization has used 80 percent of the free 10,000 with no billing details on file, we email the people who manage your organization and show a banner on the dashboard with an Add billing details button. Nothing is restricted at this point: it is a heads-up so nothing gets interrupted.

What it costs past the free 10,000

Past the free 10,000, tested visitors are billed at a declining rate: the more you use, the less each thousand costs. All prices are in US dollars, before tax.

Visitors in the monthRate
First 10,000Free
10,001 to 100,000$3.00 per 1,000
100,001 to 500,000$2.50 per 1,000
Above 500,000$2.00 per 1,000
Above 2,000,000Custom deal: contact us

Above 2,000,000 visitors a month, we agree a custom price with you. Contact us to set one up. The rate card on the Billing tab has the same link.

Worked example. An organization tests 100,000 visitors in a month. The first 10,000 are free. The remaining 90,000 fall in the 10,001 to 100,000 band, at $3.00 per 1,000, which comes to $270 before tax.

Paddle, our payment provider, adds any sales tax or VAT owed in your country on top of the rate card amount. Every figure shown in the product, the dashboard, and this page is the amount before tax. The total on your card statement can be a little higher once tax is added.

Adding billing details

Click Add billing details on the Billing tab, or on any of the banners and emails that link to it. It opens a short checkout collected by Paddle, our payment provider, for a card. Nothing is charged that day; the month's usage past the free 10,000 is billed on the 1st as usual.

Your bank may ask for an extra verification step before it approves the card, so saving one is not always a single form submit. The Billing tab says so while it waits, and keeps checking for ten minutes after you submit the card.

While your card is being confirmed, the billing details card offers Refresh to check again and Try again to start a new checkout.

If you leave the checkout without saving a card by clicking Back to billing, the Billing tab forgets it straight away and shows None on file again. A checkout left unfinished any other way, for example by closing the browser tab, is forgotten 15 minutes after it started. The next time the Billing tab loads it shows None on file, and a Billing tab left open says Checkout not finished at the 15 minute mark without a reload. Click Add billing details to start again; a new checkout starts its own 15 minutes. A card your bank approves later than that still goes on file.

To change the card later, click Update card on the billing details card. If your bank's extra step does not finish there, use the Having trouble? Update your card on Paddle's secure page link under it instead.

What happens at 10,000 with no billing details

If your organization reaches the free 10,000 in a month with no billing details on file, delivery to your website pauses:

  • Visitors see your original pages, exactly as they were before the experiment.
  • Feature flags return their default values.
  • New events are not recorded.
  • Your dashboard stays open: results, reports, exports, and settings all keep working. The only things you cannot do are the ones that would put new content live: start an experiment or a feature flag, resume a paused experiment, publish changes to a running experiment, or publish a feature flag on a running environment. Saving drafts, and publishing changes to a paused experiment, still work.

The Billing tab shows the pause, when it started, and why.

Delivery resumes within about a minute of adding billing details, or on its own at the start of the next month when the free 10,000 resets.

Setting a spend limit

With billing details on file, you can set a monthly spend limit. It pauses delivery once this month's bill reaches the amount you choose, and it is off by default. Click Set a monthly spend limit on the Billing tab and enter an amount in US dollars. Once a limit is set, click Change to edit it or Remove to turn it off.

A limit at or below this month's bill so far pauses delivery straight away. The Billing tab asks you first.

You get the same 80 percent warning against your limit as you do against the free allowance. At the limit, delivery pauses exactly as described above. The spend limit on the Billing tab then reads Limit reached, delivery is paused. Raise or remove the limit to start delivery again.

The limit is checked against your bill before tax. The amount charged to your card can be a little higher once Paddle adds any tax.

A spend limit is a pause trigger, not a cap on your bill: usage already served before the pause is still billed. We cannot un-serve a visitor who already saw your experiment.

When you are billed

Bills are issued on the first of the month, for the month that just ended, charged to the card on file. You get a Paddle receipt plus a usage statement showing the amount before tax, the tax Paddle added, and the total.

Each line on the receipt starts with the month it covers, then says what it counts. For example: "Sep 2026 visitors 10,001 to 100,000: 90,000" or "Sep 2026 AI actions: 30". An amount carried over from an earlier month has a line of its own.

A month whose bill comes to less than $1 is not charged. It is carried over and added to the following month's bill instead.

A bill is also carried over when there is no working card to charge. The usage statement says why: the card needs updating, or there is no card on file.

If a payment fails

If a month-end charge does not go through, we email you and show a banner. The Billing tab says Payment failed and names the date delivery would pause. Nothing else changes: delivery is not touched and your experiments keep running. Update your card and we try the charge again automatically the moment it is confirmed.

If the bill is still open 14 days after it failed, your account is treated as having no billing details. Delivery pauses if you are over the free 10,000, and it starts again the moment the bill is paid.

Card expiry

We warn you before the card on file expires, so the next bill does not fail. The warning starts in the month before the card's expiry month:

  • The billing details card shows Expires soon.
  • A banner at the top of the dashboard asks you to update the card.
  • We send one email to the people who manage your organization.

The banner and the email name the date to update the card by: the first of the month after the card expires. That is the first bill the card cannot pay. A card that expires in October still pays the bill on 1 October, and first fails on 1 November.

To update it, click Update card on the billing details card.

Cancelling from Paddle's own account page

Paddle's own account page lets you cancel your usage account outright, even though it has no option to just remove a card. If you cancel there, we treat it exactly like removing your billing details: we email you to explain what changed and how to restore it.

Removing your billing details

The Billing tab is the only place to remove a card: Paddle's own account page does not offer a way to do it. Click Remove on the billing details card and confirm. We charge the month's usage to date first, show you the amount, then remove the details. Early in a month, before we have counted it, there is no amount to show yet. We work it out when we remove the card.

For the rest of that month, a banner at the top of the dashboard says the card was removed. You can close it.

If there is an open bill that failed to charge, removal is blocked until you update your card and that bill is paid. Remove then says so straight away and offers Update card.

AI actions

The AI copilot and the Assistant are available once billing details are on file. They are billed at $0.15 per action, the same way as every other usage line: at month end, at whatever rate card and tax apply. Prepaid credit packs are gone; there is nothing to buy or top up ahead of time.

The usage meter shows how many AI actions you have used this month. It also splits the projected bill into visitors and AI actions.

If your organization's usage is covered by an agreement with us, the meter shows Covered by your agreement instead of a projected bill, and that includes AI actions: using the copilot and the Assistant adds nothing to a bill.

Data retention

How far back your reports can look depends on whether billing details are on file:

Billing detailsReports go back
Not on file90 days
On file365 days

Nothing is ever deleted when details come off. Results older than the shorter window are hidden, never deleted, and reappear the moment billing details are added again.

If you already had a paid plan

If your organization had an active paid subscription when this model launched, you were moved over automatically: your card stayed on file, nothing was re-entered, and any month you had already paid for was honoured, with no usage bill for it. We sent one email at the time explaining the change and naming the months already covered.

Past usage bills

The statements table lists your past monthly usage bills, newest first, each with its status. A charged bill has a receipt; an enterprise account billed by invoice has a pay-link action instead.

Paddle can take a few minutes to prepare a receipt after a charge. If it is not ready yet, the Billing tab says so. Try again a little later.
