Managing Members

The Members tab gives you a full view of everyone in your organization: active members and pending invitations. From here you can change a member's role, remove members, and manage invitations that have not yet been accepted.

The Members tab: everyone in the organization, with their role and status, plus a quick reference of what each role can do.

Accessing the Members tab

Click your avatar in the top-right corner of the page, then click Org Settings. Click the Members tab at the top of the page.

The member list

The member list shows every active member of your organization: their name, email address, role, and status. If your organization has many members, the list is paginated. Use the page controls at the bottom to move between pages.

There is no search box on this tab today. In a large organization, use your browser's own find-on-page shortcut (Cmd+F or Ctrl+F) to jump to a name.

Roles

Each member has one role, shown as a badge next to their name. A vs B ships five built-in roles: Owner, Admin, Developer, Collaborator, and Viewer. Your organization may also have custom roles, if it's on a plan that includes them. You set a member's role when you invite them; see Built-in Roles for what each one can do.

Changing a member's role

Owners and Admins can move a member to a different role:

  1. Find the member in the list.
  2. Click Change role in their row.
  3. Pick the new role. Each card says what that role can do in your organization.
  4. Click Change role in the dialog.

The new role applies straight away, the next time the member opens a page. The change is recorded in your audit log as "Role Changed".

The Owner's row has no Change role, and the Owner role is never offered: the Owner's role cannot change, and the only way to hand the organization to someone else is Transferring ownership. The same change is also available to scripts through the public API's PATCH /api/v1/members/{userId} endpoint. See Public API: Members.

Removing a member

To remove a member from your organization:

  1. Find the member in the list.
  2. Click the Remove button next to their name.
  3. Confirm the removal in the dialog that appears.

Removal takes effect immediately. The member loses access to the organization and all its projects the moment you confirm. They do not receive a notification by default. Any experiments or projects they created stay in the organization: removing a member does not delete their work.

The Owner cannot be removed

You cannot remove the Owner of an organization from the Members tab, or through the API. To move the Owner role to someone else, use Transferring ownership below. If the Owner has left your team and cannot do that themselves, contact A vs B support.

Transferring ownership

Every organization has exactly one Owner. If you are the Owner, you can hand the organization to another member. This is the only way the Owner role moves: it cannot be set by changing someone's role, on the Members tab or through the API.

1

Find the member

Open the Members tab and find the person you want to hand the organization to. They must already be a member. If they are not, invite them first and wait for them to accept.

2

Start the transfer

Click Transfer ownership next to their name. This button only appears if you are the Owner, and never on your own row.

3

Confirm

Type your organization's name in the box, then click Transfer ownership in the dialog.

The moment you confirm, three things are true. The member you chose is the Owner. You are an Admin, which keeps every day-to-day permission you had. The change is recorded in your audit log as "Ownership Transferred".

Only the Owner can transfer ownership

Once you hand the organization over, you cannot take it back yourself: the new Owner has to transfer it to you. Be sure of the person before you confirm.

If your organization somehow has two Owners, the same steps fix it. Pick the other Owner and confirm. You step down to Admin and they are left as the only Owner.

Viewing pending invitations

Invitations that have been sent but not yet accepted are listed in the Members table, after the active members. For each one you can see:

  • The email address the invitation was sent to
  • The role the member will receive when they accept
  • Its status: Pending with the date the link expires, Expired once its 48 hours are up, or Rejected if the person declined

Resending an invitation

If an invitation has expired or the email never arrived, click Resend in the invitation's row. A vs B sends a new email right away, with a fresh 48-hour link and the same role, and the row shows the new expiry date. Inviting the same address again from Invite Member does the same thing.

Revoking a pending invitation

To cancel an invitation before it is accepted, click the trash button at the end of the invitation's row (Revoke invitation) and confirm. The invitation link stops working immediately. If the recipient tries to use it afterward, they see a message telling them the invitation is no longer valid.
