Contentsquare Integration

A vs B tags each Contentsquare session with the variation the visitor saw, using a Contentsquare dynamic variable. There is no tag ID to paste in: if window._uxa is there, we talk to it.

This lets you split heatmaps, zone analysis, and session replays by variation.

Setup

1

Go to Project Settings > Integrations

Open your project, click Settings, then open the Integrations tab.

2

Turn on Contentsquare

Find the Contentsquare card and switch it on.

3

Save

Click Save. Your changes reach your live site within about a minute.

What is sent

When a visitor is shown a variation:

TypeScript
// `_uxa` is the command queue the Contentsquare tag installs on the page.declare const _uxa: unknown[][];_uxa.push(['trackDynamicVariable', {  key: 'AvsB 482',  value: 'Variant B'}]);
TypeScript7 lines

Each experiment gets its own dynamic variable. The key is AvsB followed by the experiment ID shown in A vs B, and the value is the name of the variation the visitor saw. The experiment name itself is not sent, so keep a note of which ID is which when you build segments.

Contentsquare receives experiment views only

Conversions, purchases, and recommendation events are not sent to Contentsquare, and the card does not offer them. A dynamic variable is a label on the session rather than an event, so there is nothing sensible for those to become. That is also why the Send a test event link on the Integrations tab sends nothing here: every other tool you have switched on receives the test event, and Contentsquare does not.

There is nothing to rename on this card for the same reason: the key is built from the experiment and the value is the variation name.

Viewing in Contentsquare

  • Heatmaps: view click, scroll, and attention maps for one variation at a time and compare them side by side.
  • Zone based analysis: compare click rates and exposure rates per zone by variation.
  • Session replays: filter the session list to one variation.
  • Journey analysis: compare the paths visitors took after seeing each variation.
Allow up to 24 hours

Dynamic variables are usually available for segmentation within 24 hours. Session replays show up sooner, often within a few hours.

Pair it with your results

If a variation won on clicks, the Contentsquare heatmap tells you whether people clicked the thing you changed, or something else entirely.
